The city of Laurel works to repair underground water tank

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

The Laurel City Council voted to make emergency repairs to a deteriorating underground storage tank Tuesday

Project manager, Morris Baisden, says  the tank was built back in the 1950's and rather than rebuilding the 500,000 gallon tank, they plan on refurbishing the walls, and will clean them with a  solution that should last for the next 40 years. The project will cost the county a $500 thousand dollars.

"Tomorrow we will be flushing and disinfecting the tank, let it set under the regulation for about 24 hours." said Baisden. "We will then drain it with water that will pumped to the customer by the middle of next week."

Baisden says there are no dangers to residence using city water.
