It was a day full of blessings and
prayers at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hattiesburg, but unlike the
ordinary, this one involved many furry friends.
Along with Westminster Presbyterian
Church, Southern Pines Animal Shelter hosted the blessing of the pets to
celebrate the Feast of St. Francis, who is known as the patron saint of
animals.
"Our pets are very much part of our
families and so we chose this date because it's as close as we could get to St.
Francis feast day," said Pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church Steve Ramp.
Over 30 cats and dogs came forward with
their families to receive a blessing and to support the cause, many of which
were once adopted from Southern Pines Animal Shelter.
"Well we've never done this before and
our church is never done it before so we wanted to come out and support it and
we thought it would be fun to see all the other dogs," said attendee Randall
Harris.
For now, Westminster Presbyterian Church only plans to bless more pets
in the near future.
