CLEMSON, SC (WIS) -

It's not even November yet, and the jabs between the Clemson and South Carolina football teams have already started.

On Tuesday during South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier's press conference, the Head Ball Coach, who was talking about this Saturday's matchup against LSU, took a moment to talk about LSU's Tiger Stadium, which is also nicknamed "Death Valley" just like Clemson's stadium.

"Most of our guys have never been to Death Valley," Spurrier said. "That is the Death Valley, isn't it? Or is there another one? There's two of them. That's right there's two Death Valleys. Was LSU the first one or the second one? They were first? Oh, okay."

Swinney heard about Spurrier's comments and responded light-heartedly after practice Wednesday night in a huddle with reporters.

"It's amazing people are interested in Clemson so much, but for the record, the original Death Valley is right here. In case anybody has any doubts, it's right here. That's the original Death Valley," Swinney said, offering up a few laughs to boot.

"I can see where he might have a little confusion. Our guys have never been to USC. California's a long way from here. So I can see where there would be a little confusion there. Got two Death Valleys and two USCs, but there's only one real one."

Following a few more laughs, Swinney went on to praise Spurrier and the job he has done at South Carolina.

"When he's winning, you can say what you want. He's one of the best. He's had more lines than anybody probably ever will. They have a heck of a football team, I'll tell you that," said Swinney.

Did we mention that we're still about a month and a half away from the in-state rivalry game?
