Sheriff: Man arrested for child porn worked at MS State Fair

HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A worker at the Mississippi State Fair lost his cell phone and is now behind bars because of what deputies found on it.

The man is now charged with possession of child pornography.

Thirty two year old Christopher Gadvilus of Frankfort Illinois was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon by the Hinds County Sheriff's Department after investigators said his recovered cell phone contained graphic scenes of child pornography, a young girl having sex with an adult male.

Officials said he worked at one of the booths at the fair.

Gadvilus's phone was found by another person working on the fairgrounds who turned it over to deputies.

The phone also contained other images of underage pornographic pictures.

"It's disturbing, especially to a parent. We can't say that the pornography even happened here in Mississippi. It could have been somewhere else. We do want parents to know that the Fair Commission along with the Hinds County Sheriff's Department and the A.G.'s Office worked real swiftly with this," said Capt. Joseph Daughtry with the Hinds County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators said Gadvilus also admitted to forwarding some of the pornography to one or two people.

"I think they need to put him under the jail," said Sherry Putnam who was walking the midway Wednesday afternoon.

The Byram resident is a mother and grandmother who was horrified to find out about the fair worker's arrest.

"The fair ought to screen their people better to make sure that those kind of things don't happen because he could take pictures of any of these children out here and you never know when he could snatch a child up," said Putnam.

According to the Illinois man's Facebook page, he worked at D and J Amusement.

The company provides rides and attractions to carnivals.

We contacted North American Midway Entertainment for comment on Gadvilus's employment at the fair and his arrest.

Manager Patrick Hadley said, "He's an independent operator and does not work for North American Midway Entertainment."

The sheriff's department said the investigation is ongoing.
