LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Laurel Police Chief Tyrone Stewart said crime in the city of Laurel has dropped.

"From January to August 2011 to January to August 2012 we were very pleased that we were down as far as crime stats, over 25 percent," said Stewart.  "We further investigated it, for the last for four year's we have been down over 20%."

Stewart said the city has not had any homicides in almost four years. He says most of the departments 9-1-1 calls are burglary related, most of which are being committed by juveniles.
