State auditor's office: Bassfield returns more than $360K in equipment, property

The state auditor's office says equipment and property, improperly obtained by the City of Bassfield, have been returned.

The auditor's office launched an investigation over the purchase of 22 items from the State's Surplus Property Division by the City of Bassfield.  Items purchased include several boats, travel trailers and heavy equipment.

The auditor's office say items purchased from the surplus property division must be used for local and state government use.  The investigation concluded the items purchased by the city were intended for personal use.  The city returned the items – which are valued at more than $360,000.
