Annual festival helps redevelop street in the Pine Belt

Once considered the "Main Street" of Hattiesburg's African American community, Mobile Street in Hattiesburg is known for its history.

Thanks to the Mobile Street Renaissance Festival and the resident's support, Mobile Street has developed as a business and entertainment district over the past years.

Started by Councilwoman Debra Delgado, the purpose of the festival is to remind residents of the importance and the legacy Mobile Street has, and to celebrate the heritage and the culture in the community.

"She wants to try to bring that back and just kind of boaster the community to kind of do a little bit more for itself, take a little bit of more pride in itself, spend a little bit more money with each other, and just have a good time," says close friend Mario Musgrove.

The 7th Annual Mobile Street Renaissance Festival is October 5-7, for more information click HERE.
