LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Laurel residents took full advantage of Saturday's nice weather to shop, listen to live music and eat some good food at an event which focuses attention on downtown development. The 7th Loblolly Festival featured lots of arts and crafts, blues and country music, a dog show, chainsaw artists and activities for children.

The Laurel Main Street organization hosted the event.

"People come into downtown, they see some of the new businesses that have opened, they see some of the old buildings that are vacant that they may want to open something in...it's a friendly family environment," said Ben Napier, president of Laurel Main Street.

"It's been really, really welcoming," said Jennifer Landry, a vendor from Georgia who has family in Laurel. "Everybody's got a smile on their face, a beautiful day...can't complain," she said.

The Loblolly Festival had been previously known as the Laurel Main Street Festival.
