VISITHATTIESBURG Deputy Director named tourism member of the year

Deputy Director of VISITHATTIESBURG, Kristie Fairley remembers hearing the saying,'Do what you love and you will be successful at it.'

"I love what I do," said Fairley.

Fairley's passion for the Magnolia State, and the city of Hattiesburg is evident in her work.

"I knew I had a passion for marketing and promoting things, but I kind of fell into the tourism industry,"said Fairley.

For more than a decade, Fairley has worked for the Hattiesburg Tourism Commission with her talents growing along with the city she says she loves.

"The awesome thing about Hattiesburg's Tourism Industry is that in my career over the past 16 years it has changed dramatically," said Fairley.

Some of those changes are attractions, which Fairley has a hand in organizing.

"Including the Saegner Theater, the zoo, he African American Military Museum, and the convention center, and the Miss Hospitality Pageant," said Fairley.

Maybe you've seen the Hattie logo around Hattiesburg. It's the brand for the city. Fairley contributed to that project in 2003.

"That was probably one of the highlights of my career. I got to be extremely instrumental in implementing the brand for Hattiesburg," said Fairley.

Fairley experienced another highlight during the 2012 Governor's Conference on Tourism. VISITHATTIESBURG received a Research-In-Action award. The Hattiesburg Zoo was recognized with Mississippi's only Tourism Achievement Award, and Fairley was named Mississippi Tourism Association Member of the Year.

"I was very surprised but very honored," said Fairley.

Fairley added there are lots of people in the tourism industry who are deserving of the award, and she couldn't do her job without her co-workers.

"I have an amazing team of people. They're very talented, but we also really enjoy working together and I think at the end of the day we are all successful because of that," said Fairley.
