Laurel property taxes could go up in 2014

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

The City of Laurel hasn't raised taxes since 2001, but officials said in 2014 residents can expect to see an increase by a mil and a half. That will translate into about a 15 dollar increase in taxes on a $100 thousand home.

Mary-Ann Hess, City Clerk, said the city is plans to take out a $3 million obligation bond to pave roads once the water and sewer system repairs are complete.

Hess said, A million of those dollars will go towards matching federal funds that are set aside for paving roads.
