Petal improves firefighting capability

Posted: Updated:

With the addition of a new fire engine, the Petal Fire Department has improved it's ability to better serve the Friendly City and keep its residences safe.

The addition of the new truck allows the department to retire an older one. This truck will be Engine One and will be based at Fire Station One near the Evelyn Gandy Parkway. The department has three trucks with one in reserve for its three fire houses.

The 2011 Engine was purchased for $285,000 and another $50,000 in firefighting equipment was purchased to equip it.

This truck has a lot more room than the other trucks do," said Shane Pickett, Petal Assistant Fire Chief. "We'll get to carry a larger 35-foot extension ladder. We'll also get to put more equipment on the truck and it has a high rise rear cab making it easier for firefighters to suit up on the way to a call"

The Engine also has some NASCAR history behind it. It was used at the Daytona 500 before being sold.
