Former Hattiesburg teacher found not guilty of sexual battery

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A former Hattiesburg High school math teacher was found not guilty of sexual battery Tuesday.

Leo Pollard, 29, was arrested in May 2011 by school resource officers and charged with one count of sexual battery on a female student at an off-campus location.

The case almost never made it to trial after a city judge dismissed the charges on grounds that resource officers had no jurisdiction to arrest Pollard off campus. District Attorney Patricia Burchell picked up the case and sought an indictment.

Tuesday evening the jury found Pollard not guilty.
