Convict indicted for false Amanda Berry tip

Prison inmate Robert Wolford was indicted on charges relating to his claim to have information about Amanda Berry, who was 16 when she went missing in 2003.

Wolford was indicted on charges of obstructing justice, making false alarms and falsification. Crews began digging July 19 on a vacant lot at West 30th Street and Wade Avenue after Wolford provided a tip.

Amanda was one day shy of her 17th birthday when she went missing on her way home to her birthday party. She disappeared after leaving her job at Burger King at West 110th Street and Lorain Avenue.

Wolford, a convicted killer serving a 26-year prison sentence, is scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 12. Wolford is behind bars for killing a homeless man in a drug deal in 2007 in the same area as investigators searched for Amanda's remains.
