ELLISVILLE
– Jones County Junior College quarterback Ben Stevens has been named the MACJC
Offensive Player of the Week.
Stevens,
a 6-foot-2, 195-pound sophomore from West Jones High School, completed 21-of-31
passes for 316 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions to lead the Bobcats
to a 35-28 upset of top-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College last
week.
Stevens
had touchdown passes of 70 yards to Dylan Bossier, 66 yards to Taylor Higgason,
43 yards to Rueben Ducksworth and 11 yards to Stephanio McNair, as the Bobcats
rallied from a 21-7 deficit to stun the Bulldogs.
The
victory also snapped an 8-game losing streak to MGCCC by the Bobcats.
For
the season, Stevens has completed 80-of-141 passes for 971 yards, seven
touchdowns and two interceptions. He has completed 56.7 percent of his passes.
The
Bobcats, 3-1 overall and 2-0 in MACJC South Division play, face Co-Lin on the
road at 7 p.m. on Thursday in a big league matchup. The Wolves are also 3-1
overall, 2-0 in the division.
Holmes
Community College safety Dahendrick Thompson and Northwest Mississippi kicker
Chase Carpenter were named Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week,
respectively.
Thompson
ran a fumble in for a score, had two interceptions and seven solo tackles in
the Bulldogs' 14-12 win over Itawamba. Carpenter had four field goals and a PAT
to help the Rangers beat Northeast, 19-13.
