PARCHMAN, MS (WLOX) -

An overnight development in the Parchman escape.  Michael Dowda is back in custody.

According to a Mississippi Department of Corrections news release, authorities tracked Dowda to Macon, Georgia.  The murderer was captured at approximately 12:30 a.m. by officers with the United States Marshal's Service in Georgia.

Dowda faces extradition to Mississippi and multiple charges including escape.

An earlier news release from the MDOC said it was around 3:00 Saturday when Dowda allegedly broke into a safe inside the home of an MDOC employee and stole two handguns. That home was on the prison grounds.

Authorities believe the inmate is driving a white 2005 Chevrolet Silverado Truck that he also allegedly stole from the same employee. The stolen truck has a silver tool box, Yalobusha County plates, and a MS disabled license plate number S0922.

Prison officials said Dowda was considered armed and dangerous. It's not known if he had the two handguns on him when authorities arrested him in Georgia.

Dowda was serving a life sentence for killing Lynett Jarrett of Woolmarket back in 1996.

Her body was found in the woods of Harrison County near the intersection of I-10 and canal road three months after she was killed with a single gunshot wound to the head.
