Dozens of bargain hunters gathered at a Hattiesburg storage facility Saturday morning to help a local organization which helps homeless pets. They took part in what was called the "Bidding Battle for the Beasts" for the Hub City Humane Society.
It was an auction of donated items from two storage units at Outback Self-Storage. Organizers came up with the fundraiser after seeing a similar event on TV.
Nearly $1,000 was raised.
"We are raising money to hopefully, be able to move some trailers onto some property that we're in the middle of negotiations with," said Dr. Brenda Sumrall, president of the Hub City Humane Society. "And these trailers were very kindly donated to us from PCS (Presbyterian Christian School) now that they're no longer using them and actually, they're old classrooms and they're really neat," Sumrall said.
The Hub City Humane Society was founded about 18 months ago.
