Collins Zoo could reopen in six months

COLLINS, MS (WDAM) -

On Thursday, a Covington County judge said the Collins Zoo could possibly reopen, and the owners could regain full custody of the animals.

Justice Court Judge Bobby Wayne Mooney gave the owners of the zoo, Gus and Betty White, six months to comply with state law. Judge Mooney said after the owners get in compliance, he will then consider returning the animals.

The investigation into the zoo started back in 2009.

In 2010, the State Wildlife Department conducted a raid removing several animals and issuing nearly two dozen citations.
