Hattiesburg company plans for new retirement community

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Hattiesburg developer plans for a retirement community on 52 acres of land.

Tatum Capital's  Rob Tatum said Tuesday, land along Veterans Memorial Drive in Hattiesburg is the future site for Whispering Pines Retirement Community.

Tatum says the company worked on the idea for more than a year. He says the project will have an assisted living facility, a memory care unit, independent living cottages, and a nursing home.

Tatum added there are plans for commercial and retail services along side the retirement community. He says having those continuing care facilities all in one place is the right project for a certified retirement city.

"Right now the plan is to build 44 assisted living units, 14 memory care units, 12 cottages with the option to expand. We are also building a 132 unit independent living building, and a 120 bed nursing home. We are hoping for a grocery store, a pharmacy, a bank, services like that," said Tatum

Anyone who wants to know more about Whispering Pines Retirement Community, will have an opportunity to find out more during the Hattiesburg City Council public hearing at city hall  at 4:30 p.m.
