HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg resident, Tom Caldwell celebrated another year Sunday, a birthday that not everyone gets to reach but can only hope to.
While one person had just suffered a heart attack at Provision Living, Tom Caldwell was celebrating his 100th birthday.
"Feels like I'm one year older than yesterday," says Tom.
According to GeneologyInTime Magazine, roughly 1 person in every 6-thousand reach to see their 100th birthday and Tom Caldwell is one of them.
"I think you learn when you get his age that every day is a gift to be cherished," says daughter Jane Caldwell Rose. "We're just incredibly blessed because he not only is a hundred years old, but he is still incredibly sharp."
Along with his love for language, Tom is also a remarkable golf player, but there's one love he can't envision celebrating his birthday without.
"He loves being surrounded by family, so even though we live a long way away, were always filtering through either children or grandchildren," says Jane.
"It's the delight of my life, I've got the best family on earth," says Tom.
So what is Tom's secret to living a long life?
"Keep breathing," answers Tom.
