Your Week in Viral Videos: Love to cats and hate to lifeguards

(RNN) – Tuesday was a somber day for millions of people, especially those who live in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania and were most closely affected by the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

As people get further away from that day it becomes just a little bit easier to find positives that spring from that tragedy.

Some folks, like this construction worker on the Freedom Tower, really make the effort to turn lemons into lemonade.

If watching a guy in a hard hat and steel-toe boots pop and lock isn't just the thing to pick your spirits up on a bad day, then you might need the type of help that comes with an hourly bill.

HERE'S A LITTLE KITTY DITTY

How much do you love your cat? You might as well consider that a rhetorical question because there's no way you love your cat nearly as much as this guy.

If other people were half as devoted to their pets – heck, if people were half as devoted to their marriages – we'd have a whole lot less to worry about.

Is he obsessive? Is he some weirdo with nothing better to do with his time? No, he's just a guy who wants to make things right with his cat, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Man, Dr. Suess would sooooo be all over this.

ENJOY YOUR JOB? YOU'RE FIRED

A group of lifeguards in California were fired from their jobs for filming a goofy video spoof in what the city of El Monte called a "clear unauthorized use of city resources and property."

We get it, El Monte city leaders. Policy and regulations are important, and the rules can't be bent for anyone.

But it's not like these 14 kids – most of them college students who paid for school with this job – are the only lifeguards to pass the time at the pool by turning on a video camera and having some fun.

There are tons of other internet videos of lifeguards goofing around, and no one has heard about them getting fired. Maybe El Monte city leaders haven't seen them all.

It's doubtful they've seen this one.

How about this one?

Have you seen this one, city of El Monte?

You probably haven't seen this one, either.

This one? We didn't think so.

We have a theory. All the other lifeguards that posted videos on YouTube were doing spoofs of Call Me Maybe, but the El Monte lifeguards were dancing around to PSY's Gangnam Style. So the city of El Monte's real gripe is that their employees have not bought into the Carly Rae Jepsen hype.

That's just one more reason her song should be cast into a musical abyss and never heard again.

FOOTBALL, DUDE PERFECT STYLE

If you haven't heard of Dude Perfect, clearly you are neither an aficionado of YouTube videos, sports or random and interesting things men do with their spare time.

It's a good thing for you we exist. It's also a good thing football season has started because these guys make the sport look more fun than it ever has.

This video is worth the watch, even if you don't like football.

RABBIT VS. BALLOON: NO ONE WINS

We're not really sure how to describe this video.

In a lot of ways it makes sense, but in some ways it's like, "Really?"

After some digging, you realize there are about 100 YouTube videos of people filming rabbits doing inappropriate things to inflatable objects.

Seriously, people, this is a trend that has to stop (snicker). It's weird, and in many ways it's just plain wrong (snicker). Rabbits deserve better … at least toys that won't break after 30 seconds.
