Chandler opts out as Jones County Emergency Management Director

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Laurel Deputy Chief of Police Billy Chandler has rescinded his acceptance of the position of Executive Director of the Jones County Emergency Management Agency.

Chandler had been offered the position by the Board of Directors and was take over the position on September, 17.

During the process a question was brought up that his appointment by the board might be an ethics violation of a state statute because of his work with the board of directors. The State Ethics Commission was asked to review the appointment and Tuesday released an opinion that it would be a violation of the state statute.

Chandler has decided to retain his position as deputy chief. Marda Tullos will continue as Interim Emergency Management Director.
