Hattiesburg Schools dedicate Safe Routes to School project

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hattiesburg school officials, city leaders and representatives of the Mississippi Department of Transportation gathered at Rowan Elementary School Wednesday morning to dedicate a new Safe Routes to School Sidewalk project.

MDOT awarded the City of Hattiesburg a federal grant of more than $279,000 in 2009 for the project, which involved the construction of new sidewalks, striping and signage.

More than 100 students walk to Rowan on a daily basis.
