PURVIS, MS (WDAM) -

A 43-year-old Purvis woman who allegedly held her 3-month-old baby under water in a neighbor's swimming pool for nearly 15 minutes is now charged with murder.

The charges against Mary Booker were upgraded from aggravated assault after Purvis police were informed the infant died Tuesday at University Medical Center in Jackson.

The infant had been on life support since the August 29 incident. Authorities say she was declared brain dead at 6:15 a.m.

Booker remains in jail on $1 million bond.
