Celebrity Chef Cat Cora lends helping had to storm victims

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Celebrity Chef Cat Cora was among hundreds of volunteers at the Red Cross Disaster Operations Headquarters in Hattiesburg Monday morning preparing to head out with relief supplies for those most affected by last weeks storm.

Cora is best known for her role as an Iron Chef on the Food Network. More recently she co-hosted a reality competition show called Around the World in 80 Plates on the Bravo Network.

Cora is a native of jack and a Southern Miss graduate. She is also co-founder of Chef's for Humanity, an organization that works to reduce world hunger.

Monday she was given a tour of the disaster headquarters, then she jumped on board a Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle to assist with the distribution of the relief supplies.

"The operation here is amazing. They are on top of it from communications, to gathering their partners, to making sure people are fed and warm," said Cora. "I thin they are doing a phenomenal job and they will continue doing it until the job is done."

Cora spent the day in Walthal County assisting with the relief efforts and helping to build morale.

    Three days after nearly knocking off Ole Miss, Southern Miss responded with a 58-38 win over Sam Houston State on Friday night at Reed-Green Coliseum. From the 3:16 mark of the second period to the 5:35 mark of the third period, the Lady Eagles went on a 23-0 run to open a 33-16 lead over the Bearkats. USM outrebounded Sam Houston 45-32, thanks in part to junior Megan Brown and senior Jayla King’s pair of double-doubles.
