Hattiesburg man dies after vehicle crashes into utility pole

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

A Hattiesburg man was killed Tuesday evening in a one-vehicle accident on Katie Avenue.

Forrest County Assistant Coroner Jonathon Nobles identified the man as 28-year-old Derrick Lee Jordan. Nobles says the victims vehicle left the road and hit the pole around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Woodland Court.

A crew from Mississippi Power was at the scene Wednesday morning replacing the utility pole and restoring power to a nearby home that had been affected by the crash.

Nobles said alcohol may have been involved in the crash.

    Following a school-record 55 wins and run that ended in an 8-7 loss in the NJCAA national championship, Jones County Junior College softball is eager to open the 2018 season on February 3. Coming that close to the school’s first national title serves as motivation enough for the Lady Bobcats. Regardless, expectations are always high for coach Chris Robinson’s teams – JCJC is a combined 105-12 the last two seasons.
