PEARL, MS (WLOX) -

South Mississippi is under a hurricane warning, and Governor Phil Bryant has declared a state of emergency for the entire state.

The governor and officials with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency spoke at a Sunday evening news conference at MEMA headquarters in Pearl. They're urging Mississippians to prepare now for Isaac to become a category 2 hurricane by the time it makes landfall sometime Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning.

So far, no areas in Mississippi are under a mandatory evacuation. Local emergency management officials are telling folks who live in low lying areas and typically see flooding during heavy rain to prepare for rising water and consider evacuating.

MEMA officials said they're already seeing a shortage of hotel rooms around the state. And they said shelters should be used by those who have no where else to go. So if you have a loved one or a friend outside of the area you can stay with, they urge you to do so.

EMA officials and local leaders are working together now to decide when and where shelters should open. Jackson County is opening shelters Monday at 4pm, and Pearl River County will open theirs on Tuesday.
