HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
Final preparations are being made for the move to the new Billy McGee Law Enforcement Complex.
Thursday morning the Forrest County Supervisors signed a certificate of substantial completion acknowledging the facility is ready for occupancy.
The complex has a 640-bed jail that houses both male and female inmates. It's also the home for the Forrest County Sheriff's Department and dispatch center. It has a court room for first appearances, a work center, and a medical center.
Chief Deputy Charles Bolton says the move to the new complex has already begun and it should be fully operational by the end of September.
We'll do this in phases. We'll move our work center first and our dispatch center is already operating," said Bolton. " We think we have a system in place that will make for a smooth transition.
The ADP and sheriff's department are putting together a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for Sept. 10.
