State Line native, Sgt. 1st Class Coater Debose, a Mississippi Army Reserve soldier, passed away August 19 in Spin Boldak, Afghanistan of injuries suffered from small arms fire while conducting security force assistance operations.
According to a press release from Camp Shelby the incident is under investigation. Sgt. 1st Class Debose was a communications specialist assigned to 2-351st Infantry Regiment, 158th Infantry Brigade, and First Army Division East.
1st Class Debose was deployed to assist and train Afghan uniformed police in and around the Kandahar province. According to the Department of Defense, 1st Class Debose was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. He was also a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004-2005.
1st Class Debose was survived by his wife, Juanita and son Latravis of Moss Point, his son Christopher Debose, of Parris Island, S. C., his daughter Nekeshia Raybon, of Wright Patterson Air Force Base Dayton Ohio, his son Broderick Debose, of Petal, and his daughter Caronica Jackson, who is the Hattiesburg High girls basketball coach.
According to Camp Shelby, funeral services and a unit memorial service are currently being coordinated.
