USM Freshman students move on campus

As a new school year begins to approach, students at USM gather together to help incoming Freshman move into their dorms. With less than a week away from classes to begin, it's that time where parents will have to say goodbye to their child and help them move into their temporary homes.

"I'm freaking out just because its my baby you know, but she'll be fine, she's only a few minutes from the house," says Kim Deen, a parent of an incoming Freshman.

Unlike the parents, students seem to be a bit more excited about moving in and beginning college.

"I'm a Freshman this year at Southern Miss., im going to be majoring in baking and finance. I'm excited for classes to begin and to get involve in the activities, says Taylor Deen.

Besides the help of the parents, many students move in process didn't seem to take too long thanks to several organizations including the Southern Miss. football team.

"We just come out here and help the Freshman move in you know, its something we do every year," says Tracy Lampley, wide-receiver for the football team.

With a temperature at around 90 degrees, the football team take the time out from prepairing for a new season to continue a tradition and lending a helping hand.

"There's nothing compared to the heat when we be out there running around with all our equipment on, but this is just something to show our appreciation to our new freshman that are coming in," adds Lampley.

An appreciation that is surely appreciated by the students.

"If they wouldn't of helped me it probably would of been a whole lot more strenuous, but they helped out a really big way," says Jay Longmire, student at USM.

Southern Miss. classes will start back up Wednesday.
