Hattiesburg organization delivers supplies to area teachers

Teachers give their talent, patience and in some cases their own money to make sure students have what they need. Now, there is one organization that is making sure a few teachers get what they need.

The Hattiesburg Jaycees stopped by Grace Christian Elementary School this afternoon to dropped off donated school supplies for teachers.

Jaycees Chapter President, Lisa Foster says teachers spend hundreds of dollars out of their own pockets each year for their classrooms. Through fundraising efforts, the group brought supplies to help ease the teachers burden.

Grace Christian Principal Debra Large, says due to the cuts in education teachers are grateful that groups like the Jaycees are helping out.

"Teachers are happy about it, because any time they see where the community is involved in a child's education it makes them think that we are working together to make a difference," said Large.

"We kind of adopted this school, but if there is another teacher out there or school that would like us to do something like this, sure. That's a great reason to be a Jaycee, so you can present a problem, and we can get some solutions," said Foster.
