Realtors give large donation to Domestic Family Abuse Shelter

The Hattiesburg Area Board of Realtors continued their charitable efforts Thursday with a large donation to the Domestic Abuse Family Shelter.

A check was presented to the organization in the amount of $14000. That money will be used to help build a new home to house the shelter.

The realtors have been making charitable contributions to worthy organizations around Hattiesburg for years. This year the money was raised in a poker run held in July.

The shelter provides help to mothers and their children who are victims of domestic abuse.

"We're in a house at the moment that is over 100-years-old and it is in great need of repairs," said Virginia Catt, Shelter Board Member. "I went to a realtor friend of mine and asked if they could help us get a new home. We came up with the fund raiser, the poker run and it worked out great."

This was the first year for the poker run and it was a huge success. They plan on holding the event again next year.
