M-DOT builds a bypass in Ellisville

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Mississippi Department of Transportation is placing a bypass in Ellisville to help decrease hectic traffic in the downtown area.

The new 590 Bypass will start from where the road is currently located near the Ellisville State School and run behind Jones County Junior College, connecting with Highway 29 around Jordan Loop and Pine Road.

M-DOT officials say the new bypass will be about 2.3 miles.

It cost 12.3 million dollars and is expected to be complete in August 2013.
