HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The good news is the high school football season starts on Thursday for Presbyterian Christian School. The bad news? It's against Jackson Academy; the three-time defending state champion. Even so, PCS Head Coach Joey Hawkins is confident.

Why? In a word...speed.

"This is the first year playing a Jackson school, since I've been down here," said the fourth-year head man, "that we feel like we got more speed than they do." With the skills players he possesses, Hawkins feels his team has the potential to bust a big play at any time.

"When I first got here, we had few people who could run under a five flat," said Hawkins. Even better, Hawkins will have a good number of third-year starters on his roster. "They've worked hard and planted the seed," he said, "We can break long runs, and we can make big plays."

He'll find out just how good his team is on Thursday when Jackson Academy visits Hattiesburg. Not to mention, with almost every other team having to wait until Friday to start their season, all eyes will be on the Bobcats. "It's a big game for us," said Hawkins,  "It's the first game of the season, the only game around the Pine Belt Thursday night.

"So we're looking forward to it.
