Hattiesburg Humane Society reaches out to Columbia-Marion County Animal Shelter

MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

The Hub City Humane Society is reaching out to help the Columbia Marion County Animal Shelter.

Dr. Brenda Sumrall and Virginia Cheatham joined Columbia Police Chief Clint McMurry and County Supervisor Terry Broome Thursday to see if they could iron out a plan to improve conditions the for animals.

Chief McMurray says the team came up with ideas then presented them to the Columbia Board of Aldermen. Many improvements were just updates to the old system and other equipment has been ordered to continue the transition. One problem the animal shelter faced was overcrowding of animals with such a small staff.

"We have two full time, staffed employees at the animal shelter and they are doing an outstanding job keeping things the best they can," said Columbia Police Chief Clint McMurry. "But they are going to need help."

Chief McMurray says anyone wanting to volunteer or donate to the Columbia Marion County Animal Shelter should come by City Hall or the police station for details.
