The chairman of the Mitt Romney for President Campaign in Mississippi says he wasn't surprised by the choice of Paul Ryan as Governor Romney's running mate. State Auditor Stacey Pickering says he's excited that Ryan will be on the ticket.

On Saturday, the former Massachusetts governor selected the Wisconsin representative to run with him in the November election.

"Paul Ryan is a great leader," said Pickering. "He understands our economy, what it's going to take to balance the budget. I'm totally confident that everyone understands we've got to get our debt under control and Paul Ryan has been that champion on Capitol Hill," Pickering said.

Pickering spoke in Ellisville today at a ceremony honoring the county's newest Eagle Scouts.
