At the conclusion of the 2011 Cup Series Season, Carl Edwards was tied with Tony Stewart for the point Championship. Stewart, of course, won the title based on the number of wins that he had in the Chase. With five races left before the 2012 Chase begins, Edwards is outside the post season list and eager to get back into contention.

"Last season, we performed in that Chase almost flawlessly," said Edwards recently during a break in testing at Martinsville Speedway. "We made the very most of everything we could get. If we can just win a race and make this Chase, I feel like we can be as good as anyone."

Edwards is in the Top 12 in points but does not have a win to his credit. If the season ends today,Jeff Gordon, who is in 13th place, would replace him in the Chase based on Gordon's one victory, which came last week.

"We are going to every race with one purpose and that is to win that particular race," continued Edwards. "I got a front-row seat to watch Jeff Gordon pull it off and do what's needed to be done and that's a motivator right there. We just have to go out and race these next five races like they're the most important races in the world."

Recently, Edwards' team has been providing fast race cars but the breaks have not fallen their way. The absence of a win has put pressure on the young star.

"I think most of the pressure for me comes from within," said Edwards. "I don't think anyone could add any pressure to me. I get a lot of pressure that I put on myself every day."

Edwards and his No. 99 team head to Watkins Glen this weekend where their record has not been very impressive. However, that doesn't mean that they are going to try hard.

"Hopefully, we can just go out here and have some fun and win a race or two," implied Edwards on his chances in the last few races. "It would be a huge comeback for us and it would mean a lot."

Knowing the competitive spirit of last year's runner-up, I'm sure that the No. 99 team will come each week looking to outrun the competition. It should make for a wild month of racing.
