Jones County inmate and wife accused of jailhouse drug smuggling

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Jones county inmate, William Roney, and his wife, allegedly conspired to smuggle drugs into the Jones County Jail late Friday evening.

Authorities said they learned of the plan through recorded jailhouse phone conversations where Roney and his wife were using code words as instructions to smuggle prescription pills into jail.

Authorities charged him with conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. Roney has been incarcerated since June on charges of child molestation and intent to manufacture methamphetamine.

Circuit Court Judge Billy Joe Landrum denied bond for William Roney, Monday

If convicted on all charges he could face up to a hundred years in prison. His wife, Marianne Roney, was also in court. She was arrested and charged with conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance.

She was released on a $5,000 bond.
