Jones County Sheriff unaware of Newcomb firing guns

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Jones County Sheriff Hodge said Neil Newcomb, was no stranger to their department.

Hodge said Newcomb had been arrested a few times on misdemeanor charges. They also received numerous calls about Newcomb's strange but not necessarily unlawful behavior.

In 2009, Newcomb was arrested and charged with felony child photography. Once convicted, Newcomb had to register as a sex offender.

Monday a neighbor said she called the sheriff's office in the past, to complain about Newcomb shooting a gun. Hodge says he was not aware of such past gun complaints about Newcomb.

Hodge said his department receives dozens of calls a day from neighbors complaining about theirs neighbors firing guns.
