Seventh inning- rally saves Hattiesburg; Oak Grove eliminated from post-season

The post-season will continue for the Hattiesburg (Pine Belt) Dixie Majors, but will end for the Oak Grove Babe Ruth 15-year olds. Down 3-0, and with only three at-bats to spare in the top of the seventh inning, Hattiesburg produced seven hits and five runs to take a 5-3 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh.

Tyler Giles struck out the tying run at the plate to earn the save, but more importantly, to save Hattiesburg's season. Laurel-Jones county, the team that sent Hattiesburg to the losers bracket Saturday night, looks like the favorite to go all the way after a 2-0 win over Louisiana Sunday Night.

Clint Sasser gave up only one hit against a Louisiana team that blew past Arkansas 13-2 Saturday evening.

Over at Oak Grove, where spectators avoided the aluminum seating and took cover wherever shade was available, the warriors found themselves on the losing end of an offensive explosion. Playing at the height of the day and in the middle of excruciating heat, the host Warriors lead 8-6 after the top of the fourth inning, but gave up 13 runs over the final three and a half innings to surrender a loss that ultimately ends Oak Grove's season.

The Dixie Majors World Series continues tomorrow morning with Hattiesburg facing  Duplin County of North Carolina. First pitch is set for 9:30 am, while Jones County, still unbeaten in the tournament, awaits the winner of the South Carolina-Texas matchup for an 8:00 pm showdown.
