LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - One Laurel church is helping voters get ready for the upcoming fall elections. Members of the Second Allen AME Church hosted a voter education summit Saturday.
The event focused on constitutional voting rights, the role of the church in the voting process and the importance of the youth vote.
The group, Pine Belt of Mississippi "MLK" Project Voter organized the summit.
"It's your constitutional right to get out and vote," said Shanon Dixon, communication coordinator with the Pine Belt of Mississippi "MLK" Project Voter. "So, we're just really encouraging folks, if you don't know much about the Constitution get out there, read about the Constitution, equip yourself, inform yourself, educate yourself, that's what we're really talking about," Dixon said.
