BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Executives with the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino will ask the Biloxi City Council for tax exemptions so it can build a second hotel tower.

The proposed 12 story hotel would have 154 rooms.  And according to the resolution submitted to Biloxi council members, it would "promote commercial and hospitality industry economic recovery and redevelopment."  Consequently, Hard Rock bosses are hoping the expansion can get a seven year exemption from municipal ad valorem taxes.

An application for the Post-Katrina Commercial and Hospitality Economic Recovery and Redevelopment Tax Exemption says the new hotel would be a $32 million investment.

The second hotel would be just to the west of the Hard Rock pool.  A walkway would connect the hotel with the casino floor.

The Biloxi City Council takes up the Hard Rock request at Tuesday's council meeting.
