Thousands of people visited the Town of Mize Saturday to enjoy live entertainment, buy unique items and eat all the watermelon they could...all to help out the local fire department. The 34th annual Mississippi Watermelon Festival attracted an estimated 6,000 visitors.
It's a fundraiser for the Mize Volunteer Fire Dept.
This year's event featured a car show, lots of activities for children and plenty of watermelon.
"This is all about home and family and inviting people into our home," said Terresa Stewart, festival director. "We bring in vendors and visitors from several states. This is about showing everybody who and what we are here in Smith County," Stewart said.
Organizers hoped to bring in about $6,000 to buy equipment and other items for the fire department.
