A trial has been scheduled for this fall in a lawsuit that claims Obamacare is unconstitutional because it violates privacy rights. The case will be heard in Hattiesburg in October by U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett.
The suit, filed in April of 2010, challenges the Affordable Care Act on the grounds that it would force people to disclose medical information to insurance companies when they are required to purchase policies.
The government says that's not true.
"That's something that's a big deal, the right to privacy nowadays, with medical records being created electronically and zipped around over the internet and an awful lot of people have been complaining about the lack of privacy in their medical records and it's a huge issue for us," said Doug Lee, one of the attorneys who filed the suit.
A pretrial conference has been set for Aug. 10. Among the plaintiffs in the case is Gov. Phil Bryant, who joined the lawsuit as a private citizen.
