JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Jones County authorities are urging caution if county residents celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks. They say the continued dry conditions have increased the chance for destructive woods fires and they hope residents will be extremely careful.

They also are urging folks not to do any outdoor burning for the time being.

"We're monitoring a potential for a burn ban in the next several days, if we don't receive any significant precipitation throughout the county," said Dan McKenna, Jones County Fire Coordinator.

Currently, 24 counties in Mississippi have some kind of burn ban in effect. In the Pine Belt, the following counties have prohibited outdoor burning...Clark, Lamar, Marion and Jefferson Davis.
