Fireworks sales down due to lack of rain say retailers

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

The high temperatures haven't been good on firework sales, say Hattiesburg retailers.

Local Hub City retailers say the residents are afraid under the burn ban circumstances to shoot fireworks.

With Mississippi's summer in full swing, those burn bans could remain in effect until August.

    Laurel police arrest two men after a short foot chase early Monday morning.  Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Central Avenue and north Pine Street around 2:30 a.m. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and the suspects jumped from the vehicle in the 300 block of Township Road.  Alex Crews, 20, and James Clark, 38, were apprehended after a short foot chase.     A pedestrian was struck and killed, another seriously injured, and a Biloxi man is behind bars after an early morning wreck in the Hub City.  Justin Williamson, 25, of Biloxi, was arrested and charged with DUI-negligence resulting in death after an early morning crash on U.S. 49 by Interstate-59 and according to Hattiesburg Police Department Capt.
