Long time area coach has road dedicated to him

Posted: Updated:
COLLINS, MS (WDAM) -

A portion of Highway 84 in Covington County was dedicated Tuesday afternoon to long time area basketball coach Ben B. James Senior.

More than 100 friends, family, and dignitaries attended the dedication at the Collins Train Depot.

Throughout his life James was a coach, teacher, and business man with a love for basketball. He coached at Collins, Sumrall, New Hebron, and Columbia. He left coaching to be closer to family in 1977 and took over his fathers cleaners in Collins.

Signs will be posted with his name on the side of Highway 84 at the eastern end of Collins and the Highway 588 intersection.

James passed away in January at the age of 60.
