Three men have been arrested – at the site where a fire destroyed a home Sunday night.

The Jones County Fire Council, which provided the photo, says the fire happened in the Powers community just before 7:00 p.m.  No one was at home at the time.  But as volunteer firefighters battled the blaze, authorities say Mark Purvis, Jr., his father and his brother arrived and attempted to enter the home.

Firefighters then called for assistance from sheriff's deputies to keep the relatives away from the scene.  The sheriff's department says an altercation between the men and deputies resulted in the arrests of the relatives.  Purvis as well as Mark Purvis, Sr., and Blake Purvis have been charged with assault on a law enforcement officer.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
