A date has been set for a vote on a new redistricting plan for the City of Hattiesburg. Thursday night, during what was called a "redistricting summit," Hattiesburg City Council members agreed to vote on one of four proposed plans on July 3.
The Council also decided to hold one more public hearing on the issue. That will take place on Thursday, June 28 at the C.E. Roy Community Center at 6 p.m. "
"The Council will approve a plan and it will be submitted to Justice (Department) and the Justice Department will go through the process of pre-clearance," said Kim Bradley, council president. "All the plans will go along, Justice will review those plans, as well as the commentary from all the people, anything that took place pertaining to this process will be submitted in that proposal," Bradley said.
He expects the Justice Department to respond to the city's plan in about 90 days. The vote on July 3 is scheduled for 11 a.m. at City Hall.
