Two high-level Hattiesburg city employees resign

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Two high-level Hattiesburg city employees resigned suddenly Monday afternoon in a meeting with Mayor Johnny Dupree.

The Mayor's office says Department of Public Works General Manager Tim Pittman and department Director Russell Davis resigned due to personal reasons.

"There were circumstances surrounding their departure that cannot be commented on because it is a personnel issue," said Mayor DuPree in a phone call Tuesday afternoon. DuPree met with Pittman and Davis for a second time on Tuesday at 7 a.m.

The resignations are effective immediately. Department employees were informed of the management changes Tuesday morning.

Pittman had worked for the city for 18 years and 5 months and served as the general manager since August 2009. Davis had been with the city for 17 years and 5 months.

Vice Mayor John Brown will step in as interim department general manager.
