Sandersville man behind bars, charged with statutory rape

SANDERSVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

Twenty-four-year-old Lester Yelverton of Sandersville was arrested Monday and charged with statutory rape.

Yelverton is accused of having sexual relations with a 12-year-old-girl. He was picked up at his home at about 3 a.m. and is being held in the Jones County Jail.

Yelverton made his initial appearance Monday afternoon before Judge David Lyons who set bond at $100,000.

Sandersville Police say they continue to investigate the alleged rape.
